Move freely, reduce your injury risk, and optimise your performance
What is biomechanics?
Intrinsic biomechanics is the measurement of key joints in the body to assess whether they are functioning optimally. Dysfunction of these joints may cause excessive load in others. Intrinsic Biomechanics Coaching is a non-medical screening system. Most people with niggles, recurrent injuries or low grade, non-specific aches actually have poor biomechanics rather than medical conditions or specific injuries. There are often no pathological changes, merely structures that are put under too much pressure from poor biomechanics. |
And if there are specific injuries these can often be caused by poor biomechanics leading to compensatory posture or movements, which eventually lead to those injuries. Treating the injury will not necessarily prevent that injury from recurring later unless the underlying faulty biomechanics are addressed.
It is now widely recognised that before we can train functionally we need to stabilise our bodies, most specifically our core muscles. However, there is a step before stabilisation and we call that normalisation. There is no value in stabilising your body in the “wrong” alignment as this simply perpetuates an inefficient pattern of movement and misaligned posture. Our sedentary lifestyles can often lead to less-than-ideal posture and movement: as the years go by these become ingrained and learning more efficient movement patterns and posture therefore becomes a process of re-educating both the body and mind.
What do you do as my Biomechanics Coach? As a Biomechanics Coach, I do not “diagnose” and I do not “treat” clients. My skills lie in identifying mechanical areas at risk of injury within a client’s body and with regards to their neuro-musculoskeletal system (including pelvis, spine, shoulders, knees, feet; joints, muscles and nerves). The manual screening system I use requires no machinery so it is perfectly safe and extremely effective. This programme is evidence-based and has been tried and tested for over 25 years on both Olympic athletes and the general public to the same effect. |
Once I have a comprehensive idea of how a client is moving and any areas of dysfunction, I then educate those clients on how to prevent injury by preparing the body thoroughly for movement. (It is for this reason that it is sometimes referred to as “pre-hab”.) I do not aim to “fix” clients but rather to give them a programme of very simple exercise techniques that improve the way they move and the proper functioning of their musculoskeletal system. We build a bespoke programme which a client can follow on their own whenever needed rather than having to rely permanently on expensive treatments.
Pre-hab = ensure your body is moving freely and efficiently first and then stabilise it there!

Who is it for?
- Anyone who is regularly getting injured when they increase or change their exercise regime.
- Anyone who suspects their posture or lifestyle is causing them to have aches or areas of tightness in their body.
- Athletes who want to see if they can improve their performance by improving the functioning of their musculoskeletal system.
- Anyone interested in being as comfortable in their body as possible and in safeguarding themselves against future injuries caused by poor biomechanics.

I have found Sabina to be incredibly knowledgeable about the body. She explains brilliantly how every muscle is interlinked and how a problem in one part of the body can cause so many other problems. She has helped me understand my body in a way no one else ever has. She has not bamboozled me with jargon but rather explained, advised and recommended how I have the power to change how my body works.
Biomechanics is not cheap – then again, we pay hundreds of pounds to have our cars serviced so why not pay for our bodies to be serviced? I personally have found the benefits to far outweigh the financial costs. To me, you cannot put a price on feeling healthy, pain-free and good about yourself and Sabina has helped me do that. I have also taken up yoga which I believe totally compliments the biomechanics work – they go hand in hand.
Four months ago I was rather dreading old age and what that inflicts upon the body. But now, I have all the tools I need to keep my body correctly aligned, strong and flexible to face whatever the future throws at me! Thank you, Sabina!
