Sabina Bird
I have always loved movement and I enjoy sport and exercise in just about any form (even when I’m not very good at it). Our bodies want to move and our minds are happiest in a body that can move freely! I am endlessly fascinated by the human body and the power and complexity not only of the body but of the mind that inhabits it. When the two are working together, amazing things can happen. After gaining two Masters degrees (Cambridge and London) I worked in London for 6 years, first as an education adviser to the government and then as a management consultant. I was then fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to focus on what I am really passionate about and initially I retrained as a Personal Fitness Trainer in South Africa. I started up my own business, VitalEnergy, in 2000 and have continued to work in it since then, adding other qualifications along the way. First it was Pilates, then Yoga and, in 2015, Intrinsic Biomechanics. |
My biggest passion now is practicing, learning, and sharing the richness of Yoga. It is a never-ending journey of exploration, and is complemented by my other work in Intrinsic Biomechanics and Pilates. Nothing exists in isolation. We need both flexibility and strength (in body and mind), an emotional trauma can translate into physical pain, our personalities will help to drive the development of our musculature : everything is connected. For this reason I bring a fully holistic approach to my work and through your physical experiences you may find yourself discovering things you never expected!
My classes and sessions are fun-filled and light-hearted despite the fact that our hard work is most definitely serious. My aim is that you always leave a session feeling much better than when you started, that you will have gained new skills, strength, or flexibility, and that you may even have learned a little more about the person you want to be. Oh, and you will probably make some good friends along the way too!
I have additional specialist qualifications in:
- GP referrals (clients with various health issues such as cardiac rehab, stroke rehab, spinal rehab, diabetes etc.)
- Exercise for the management of lower back pain
- Pre- and post-natal exercise
- Psychology and counselling
- Restorative yoga
- Yin yoga
- Yoga nidra
I continue to regularly participate in advanced yoga teacher trainings and anatomical research: currently my particular interests in these fields are learning sanskrit and studying with global leaders of myofascial research and its implications for movement therapy and spatial medicine.
Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email if you would like to find out more. Come and join the fun!
