"Remember who you are". The theme of this 75 min yoga class is that The Bhagavad Gita teaches us that we are born with goodness and compassion. Our path as yogis is to remove the selfish habits that hide them: it is not a path of self-improvement but rather one of self-realisation.
Expect to feel strengthened, lengthened, and relaxed. |
A 75 min yoga class using flowing movements to embody a sense of fluidity: helping us to improve our adaptability to whatever life brings us.
"Adaptability is the ability to be resilient in difficult times and not to resist happiness when it occurs" Judith Hanson-Lassiter |
This 75 min yoga class aims to work with the idea of non-grasping, of gracefully letting go of things not meant for us. We use our experiences on the mat to notice our reactions and learn from them. Plenty of hip opening and building to the peak pose of Bird Of Paradise if it is meant for you!
Starting with a short dharma talk this 75 min yoga class will encourage you to notice what thoughts arise as you challenge your body, and to understand that no pose (like no thing) is in itself inherently good or hard, nice or nasty. It is our perceptions that make it so......
A 75 min yoga class to bring you out of your head and into your body with asana flows to keep you focused on your body so your mind can still. Then gently you can explore whether things come into your mind through your body, particularly as you rest and assimilate your practice.
You will start this 75 min class with a nadi shodana practice (alternate nostril breathing), followed by a slow warm up, a dynamic asana practice including inversions, then slower, longer held stretches to cool back down before relaxation. Our aim is to find calm and stillness in our heads and our thoughts.
In this 75 min class we focus on practicing (and then hopefully living) with truth and honesty: not only in how we are with others but in our relationship and communication with ourselves. Be honest about what you find as you move and be prepared to work and to laugh!
During this 75 min yoga class you will be encouraged to move lightly and gently, like a chameleon. The class starts with a simple breathing awareness exercise, then builds into mindful, dynamic movement before slowing down again and leading to relaxation. "Learn to do everything lightly"
In this 75 min class you will start with surya bedhana to ignite your fire for a dynamic practice. You will then bring your energy down again towards the end, finishing with chandra bedhana before savasana (relaxation). A balanced class with plenty of leg strengthening!
"Everything changes". Apparently the phrase Buddha suggested when asked to encapsulate his teachings in one sentence! We muse on the fact that everything passes, good or bad and that it's not accepting this which causes our suffering or unhappiness. We do this whilst moving through a dynamic asana practice, with the aim of fully inhabiting each moment. A 75 min class.
Yoga can help us be happy with what we have rather than constantly craving more..... This 75 min class starts with musing on the concept of aparigraha (non-grasping) and how to be content with less. It continues with a pranayama practice of extending your exhale, then a balanced asana practice to work your body before relaxing in savasana.
In this 75 min yoga class you will start with pranayama practices to build awareness of the breath and then to increase energy flow. You will then move into a series of slow-flowing movements, directing awareness and attention to physical sensations, before coming into a calming inversion and resting in savasana.
A 75 min yoga class bringing awareness to the transitions: focusing not on a final pose but enjoying the journey through movements. The destination is the journey itself. You will only need a block for this class and you will move slightly more slowly but mindfully and deeply.
In this 75 min yoga class you will be encouraged to feel your way into the energy of each asana and to feel the spirit flowing through you. You will develop your strength, allow your body to enjoy flowing movements, and challenge your mind to remain "in the moment". You will need a block for this class.

Yoga helps up to develop physical flexibility but also, perhaps more importantly, mental adaptability - defined as " the ability to be resilient in difficult times and not to resist happiness when it occurs", Judith Hanson-Lassiter. This 75 min class starts with a pranayama practice, moves into flowing asana sequences, then slows down into longer-held asanas before releasing into savasana.
This class starts with an awareness meditation to work out what you need right at this moment. You are then encouraged to practice in a way that enables you to find what you need from your practice. There are dynamic sequences that you can take as you need to, and some longer held stretches and releases.
The final class of 2021 is all about appreciating the simple joy and privilege of being alive. A full physical exploration of movement with a few giggles, balancing (or not!), and then down to the floor for the "easy" part of class, ending as always in a relaxing Savasana.
To get to where we would like to be, both physically and mentally, we have to do the work..... The trick is to find a way to make the work enjoyable. This 75 min yoga class aims to make the work of strengthening and mobilising the body, and calming the mind into a nourishing and fun practice.
This 75 min class begins with a pranayama practice following the wave of the breath then allowing this to lead you into movement. All movements are led by the breath in a simple but strong asana practice which then leads to the stillness in body and mind in savasana.
Consciousness is only possible through change, change is only possible through movement - Aldous Huxley.
This class starts with increasing your awareness of breath, then keeping this awareness throughout the movement part of the class. Expect to stretch and strengthen the whole body whilst being fully aware of what you are feeling. |
Practicing yoga with aparigraha (non-grasping or non-greed). In this 75 min class you will be encouraged to feel the difference between rigidity and fluidity, to find the place where there is effort but the breath is free, to sow the seed rather than to expect an immediate harvest. Relax and enjoy!
When we embody fluid movements, we also increase our ability to cultivate fluidity in our thoughts, feelings and emotions. This 75 min practice includes a simple pranayama (breathing practice), gentle flowing movements which build to strengthening movements, then slows down into a gentle inquiry in fluidity in the body. Enjoy!
Using breathing practices and movement, both dynamic and held, this 75 min class focuses on using the simple mantra "let go" to find freedom in body and mind. It doesn't matter whether you have something specific in mind that you need to let go of or not, the magic will still happen!
Yoga has been described as "skilfulness in action". This means asking your body "what makes sense for me today?', waiting for an answer, and then moving in a mindful way that follows the answer you got rather than an answer you wanted to hear! This 75 min class starts with a breathing awareness practice, warms your body up for some dynamic movement and longer held poses before fully relaxing in savasana.
In our yoga practice there is no audience - only participants. Through this we learn to participate fully in our practice and in our lives: things do not "happen to us", rather we direct them so we can build the lives we want to live. We do this through fully exploring dynamic, challenging movements, then slower, longer-held stretches.
Starting with a balancing and energising breathing practice this 75 min class will give you the opportunity to continually challenge your body, exciting the nervous system, then find rest to calm it back down. In this way we learn how to enjoy the highs and make use of the lows for rest and recovery: a good tool for living!
We were born to move. Our bodies are designed for mobility. This 75 class simply encourages you to move creatively in a way that feels good for you. Expect a few small twists on known yoga postures and come prepared to explore and with the mindset that given the choice to "sit it out or dance", you dance!
Shradda is "that which is placed in the heart" : the beliefs and perceptions we hold so deeply we never question them. It is our shradda which determines our destiny but in this class we explore how yoga can help us understand how through movement and watching our thoughts we can change our perceptions and exert some control over our shradda. 75 mins of relaxation, hard physical challenge and relaxation again.
